North End Snowshoe Classic Race

The North End Ski Club is excited to again host our annual North End Snowshoe Classic race with two distances: 5 km & 10 km. Segments of the North End Classic Ski Trail, a scenic, rolling, remote trail meanders through the North End Ski Trail System.

Ladies Fat Bike Getaway

This weekend adventure will have you experiencing the great outdoors, riding the legendary Birkie Trail, polishing your fat biking skills, and meeting other women who aspire to or love to ride. The Ladies Fat Bike Getaway, presented by Fluid Health and Fitness, is a fun-filled adventure close to home. Gift yourself this exciting getaway with friends!

Seeley Hills Classic

The Seeley Hills Classic, started in 1992, is the second-largest annual classic cross-country ski event on the Birkebeiner Trail. The 42 km race is an American Birkebeiner qualifying race.



FEBRUARY

Annual Hayward Lions Pre-Birkie

Birkie Trail, Hayward, WI

Skiers can race the short (25 km) or long (42 km) on the world-class American Birkebeiner Trail. All racers will receive a race sweatshirt, brat, beverage, and local sweets. All proceeds for the race will benefit the variety of service projects and organizations the Hayward Lions Club supports.

Skate 50km or classic 53 km from the American Birkebeiner Trailhead in Cable, WI, through the forest on the Birkie Trail, glide across Lake Hayward, cross over the American Birkebeiner International Bridge, and head toward the finish line on Hayward’s snow-covered Main Street.

Fat Bike Birkie

The Fat Bike Birkie, Presented by Freewheel Bike, is North America's premier snow bike event. Riders test their skill and endurance on the professionally groomed American Birkebeiner Ski Trail! Three events to choose from: The Big Fat 47 km, The Half Fat 21 km, and the un-timed Fun Fat 10 km Tour.

MAY

Hungry Bear Gravel

Cable, WI

Whether you have a hankering to ride the Hungry Bear 100, Snacking Bear 60, or the Climbing Cub 30, all routes will serve up a challenge and give you a taste of the fortified gravel we have in Wisconsin’s Northwoods. From smooth rolling forest roads to steep descents littered with bumpy baby heads to eroded logging tracks, the three routes are a smorgasbord of million-year-old table scraps left over from the last glacial period. We finish at Tilly’s Pies and the Rivers Eatery Pizza


JUNE

Farmers Market

Local farmers, growers, and artists come out each week, 9 am-1 pm each Saturday, from June through the last weekend of September. Purchase fresh flowers, jewelry, pottery, jams & jellies, produce, fruit, and fresh meats.


EPIC Bike Fest

Cable and Hayward, WI
Get ready for a cycling festival weekend that will challenge you while being fun for your entire family and friends.  Food trucks, cycling expo/festival, beer tent on site, fun, and games - this will be a weekend worthy of the title Epic! Flow through CAMBA’s forested singletrack (kids race, 18 or 37 miles) and/or take on the challenge of Northwoods gravel (25 or 50 miles), and you will see why they named it EPIC.


JULY

Independence Day Celebration

Cable, WI

Visit Cable on the 4th to celebrate in grand style with red, white, and blue pancakes, a 5k and 10k run/ walk fundraiser for C.A.R.E, one of the best parades in the northland, a fun-filled town picnic, and fireworks!

Namekagon Art & Music Festival

The Namekagon Art and Music Festival is a delightful outdoor festival with art, music, a poetry jam, a kids' art tent, food, and a great festival atmosphere. This is a FREE family event that annually brings family and friends together.


AUGUST

Art Crawl

Mason, Bayfield, and Sawyer Counties, WI 

An annual art tour of artists’ studios and galleries. The self-guided tour takes visitors through the lake-studded Northwoods, from Mason, WI (Delta) in Bayfield County to Cable, Hayward, Springbrook, and Stone Lake in Sawyer County, Wisconsin. Dozens of artists will show and sell their creations, and some will demonstrate their craft. New this year is the addition of interested area high school students in art.


Lumberjack World Championships

Hayward, WI 

The world's best lumberjack athletes compete to determine the best in the World! International competition showcasing the best sawing, chopping, speed climbing, log rolling, boom-running & more! You'll have a darned good time! Great family fun! 


Ojibwa Canoe Races

This canoe and kayak race follows a 5-mile course on the Chippewa River from the Wannigan Resort to the Ojibwa Bridge on Cty Rd G. Multiple race classes, open kayak class, standard hulls only, no race hulls. Fun for the whole family at the Baird Community Park in Ojibwa. Games for kids of all ages, food and refreshments, and many raffles. 

Seeley Lions Pre-Fat Bike Race

AMBirkie Hwy 00 Trailhead, Hayward, WI 

Many different distance options for this race: 25 Mile Expert, 17 Mile Sport, 10 Mile Citizen, 17 Mile Fat Bike, and a Kids Race Cub Event Race. The PreFat is the Seeley Lions major annual fundraiser that allows us to carry out the many yearly projects we carry out to provide help and service to our local community. 



SEPTEMBER

Clam Lake Elk Fest

Bring your classic cars, motorcycles or any other form of transportation to the car show. No entry fee and amazing custom metal art awards! Feast on grilled chicken with all the fixings that is cooked up by the Elk Country ATV club. Many vendors of all types line the streets. Last year showcased so many area talents, antiques, and unique vendors. Elk education and population studies sessions at the community club. Habitat tours and much more!!!

Cable Fall Festival

The Fall Color won’t be the only thing bursting to life this fall.  The Cable Area Fall Fest, held annually the last weekend of September, offers visitors of every age entertaining opportunities sure to make this your favorite festival of the year. Cornstalks, hay bales, and pumpkins line the roads throughout the cable. Live music, car, motorcycle, and truck show, arts and crafts vendors, and incredible food vendors fill the streets all for your enjoyment.


Birkie Trail Run Festival

American Birkebeiner Trailhead, Cable, WI

The events will traverse the rolling hills and twists & turns of the famous Birkie Trail. You’ll see beautiful vistas from atop Mt. Telemark and run on challenging hills, all within the beautiful forests of northwest Wisconsin. The Birkie Trail Run Festival’s half marathon has once again been named the USA Track and Field 2021 Half Marathon Trail Championship!


Chequamegon Mountain Bike Festival

NOVEMBER

Turkey Birkie Ski Festival

The Turkey Birkie Ski Festival will take place at the American Birkebeiner Trailhead.  Arrive from Telemark Rd- take Hwy M east from Cable, take a right (south) on Telemark Rd., and follow the signs to parking and registration/check-in.  Exit the start/finish area on McNaught Rd.  There is ample parking at the American Birkebeiner Trailhead.

Christmas in Cable Weekend
